The Comedy Gig – 20 April 2013

Drummer Greg’s father lives in Indonesia and has never seen Greg play live before. On this weekend he was going to be in London and Greg wondered if we should do a gig on this date. And so we decided that indeed this is when we were going to play live!

Lady luck was on our side this time, a lot. We got an extra special and long soundcheck during which we were able to hone our stage sound and technique to perfection. There were only 3 bands playing on the night, which meant we got to play for an hour. Yes, a whole hour! During which we were able to play our longest set since the Luna Lounge Gig. The set played on the night was

  1. Hypnotised
  2. Just Walk Away
  3. Out of Power
  4. Monument to All Your Sins
  5. Crap Day
  6. The Moment
  7. Crazy
  8. Deep Blue Sea
  9. Pointless
  10. The Score

Tower Tavern Gig – 2 March 2013

After over a year we were back at the venue below the famous BT Tower. We had a bigger stage this time and had some awesome curry beforehand, and we were ready to rock!

We experimented by opening with our song Crazy as first song. As there were 6 acts scheduled to play in the evening we had a very short and sharp set.

The setlist played on the night was:

  1. Crazy
  2. Hypnotised
  3. Just Walk Away
  4. Out of Power
  5. Crap Day
  6. Monument to All Your Sins

The Comedy Gig – 26 January 2013

Somewhere down the line we had gone out of gigging mode again. Partly Christmas holidays and partly a load of other things. But we were back for The Comedy gig with vengeance.

Lady luck was on our side as 1 band pulled out on the night and there were only 3 bands playing including us. We played as final band of the night and as fewer bands were playing we had a nice long set and were able to play 45mins. Result!

We also recorded this gig on camera again and here is a performance of A Monument to All Your Sins (I don’t care).

Set list played on the night.

  1. Hypnotised
  2. Just Walk Away
  3. Out of Power
  4. Monument to All Your Sins
  5. Crap Day
  6. The Moment
  7. Crazy
  8. Pointless
  9. The Score

The Comedy Gig – 2 October 2012

We made some really bold moves for this gig. Moves that 6 months ago we wouldn’t dream of. With the time pressure of just 30 minutes to play our songs and the fact that we now have a load of new tunes, plus a brand new song we were gonna launch at this gig…..well, a load of old classics simply had to go. Out was also The Moment, which as musicians we love playing!

What was in though was our brand new song Crazy. We felt so confident with this two and half minute burst of a song that we decided to headline with it!

We also recorded this gig on video and here is the debut performance of Crazy.

Set list played on the night.

  1. Hypnotised
  2. Just Walk Away
  3. Out of Power
  4. Crap Day
  5. Monument to All Your Sins
  6. Crazy

The Comedy Gig – 24th April 2012

It had been over a month since our last gig and in the background we were working on a brand new song. That song was just on the verge of being ready for this gig, but as it still required some lyrics we best thought not to do that one on this occassion.

And so we were happily back at our favourite residency venue bang in the middle of central London on a midweek Tuesday night. We were in the mood to party for sure. We moved our set around a bit and had a pretty sweet sound through the venue guitar amps. It was crystal clear and pretty loud too \m/. The flavour of this particular set was that some songs were slower tempo than our usual gigs, and in doing so they were also a lot clearer and crisper.

The set played on the night was:

  1. Hypnotised
  2. Just Walk Away
  3. Out of Power
  4. Crap Day
  5. The Moment
  6. Pointless
  7. The Score

As always massive respect and thanks to those who made it out to come out and play on a school night. You know you are the hardcore ones and we love you every bit for it. Until next time friends, keep that rock sign up \m/

Luna Lounge Gig – 3rd March 2012

Combining two of Great Britain’s favourite loves. Rock Music and Curry!

We were back at the Luna Lounge after almost 3 years, making a return of the rock and curry night. We were joined by The Frayed Laces and Bourbon Street Parade.

The set played on the night was:

  1. Just Walk Away
  2. Out of Power
  3. Society
  4. Crap Day
  5. Crossroad
  6. Terminator Theme
  7. Pointless
  8. Hypnotised
  9. The Moment
  10. Lost Odyssey
  11. Set Me Free
  12. Deep Blue Sea
  13. Hit Me One More Time – Britney Spears cover
  14. The Score

In the background this was a nightmare gig to organise because of the complicated logistics to do with transport and setting up sound. But we did perform the longest set of original songs we have ever done.

The Comedy Gig – 7th February 2012

As we were waiting in that basement at The Comedy pub nervously, band after band had sound checked..we were now the last one to sound check with less than 5 minutes to go before doors opened for the night. Drummer Greg was the last one to arrive and as he’d forgotten to bring casual clothes he was actually out shopping for new casual wear and hence the delay. That’s a first for us but a pretty cool story though!

But none of that was to matter. We really were in true form and total fire for this gig. This was our most energetic performance since our regular return to gigging from September 2011 onwards. Only now have we re-established an energetic, care free, 100% fun fun fun vibe to our live shows.

As for the set list we actually had no idea of what songs we were going to pick for this gig. In the end we settled for a slightly safe option of a repeat of our last gig’s set. Reason being that the other two new songs have been modified since they were launched and we would have probably made a right meal of those if we played them 😉

So the set list played on the night was:

  1. Hypnotised
  2. Out of Power
  3. Just Walk Away
  4. Crap Day
  5. The Moment
  6. Pointless
  7. The Score

The only difference from the last gig’s set being that this time we ended with The Score, which is back to it’s crowing glory as the set ender.

Thanks to all those who were there, and there were quite a few of you! We made new fans and it was great to meet the oldskool ones. We are grateful to everyone who turned up and can’t thank you enough for your support. Rock ‘n roll!

Fiddler’s Elbow Gig – 5th January 2012

It took us over 9 months to do our first gig of 2011 but we sure fixed the record for 2012 by doing a gig in this new year in just 5 days. And for what a great cause too, we booked this gig for a Save the Children charity gig and all the bands on the night collectively raised over £300.

After our previous gig we were now on a roll. We had already colloborated with a duo called Hat’s Off Gentlmen It’s Adequate and when they offered us a charity gig in Camden we just couldn’t refuse!

We were on as third act on the night and we’d missed the sound check as two of us were stuck on the London metro network and just couldn’t make the sound checks. So we were a bit nervous when we went on stage, but it really was our lucky day soundwise. The venue and the amps were absolutely amazing and the sound Engineer was a pro too. The result is that we sounded so hot on stage it was unbelievable! Compare that to the last gig where lead guitarist Matt’s amp cut out through one song.

The result of this great sound on stage was that we were super tight and well rounded in our set. We opened again with Hypnotised and you could see the gasps in the audience as they were hit by something truly amazing 🙂

On this occassion we dropped our debut song from last time Crossroad and Lost Odyssey, instead reviving our old classic The Score again. Here’s the set list from the night:

  1. Hypnotised
  2. Out of Power
  3. Just Walk Away
  4. Crap Day
  5. The Moment
  6. The Score
  7. Pointless

Many thanks to all those who were there and the other bands who played on the night and raised money for charity, and also to the sound engineer for giving us a great sound on stage. Enjoy this amazing video of Hypnotised taken in the audience.

Tower Tavern Gig – 10th December 2011

We did some really spectacular stuff with our music for this gig. And it is fair to say this gig marked the departure from our old classic sound to a more coherent, rounded and well defined sound. The 5 new songs we have written in about a year outnumbered the 2 older songs of our classic set. We had to make some tough decisions to do this but we boldly went ahead with things and it paid off well!

DonkeyBox Tower Tavern Dec2011

DonkeyBox live on 10 Dec 2011

The Score is a song we have played since June 2003 at every single set we have ever played. And it has almost always been our set closer and the final song of the night. We decided to ditch the song. Another song we truly love playing live is The Moment and that too we had to skip. So what was left then if these two critical songs were left out?

We opened with a song that has only seen two gigs previously, a brave move indeed. But Hypnotised went down very well as an opener. But this gig wasn’t about Hypnotised or any of the other songs.

Our total re-jig of the DonkeyBox setlist was prompted by yet another brand new song we launched at this gig! The song is called Crossroad and it has a riff that is similar to the famous “Smoke On The Water” riff as many people in the audience pointed out to us 🙂 The song didn’t even have any complete lyrics (including a chorus) until about 3pm on the day of the gig!

Not only that but we were so reluctant to drop any songs that the decision for the set list was made after we had sound checked. The set played on the night eventually was:

  1. Hypnotised
  2. Out of Power
  3. Just Walk Away
  4. Crap Day
  5. Crossroad
  6. Lost Odyssey
  7. Pointless

It truly was incredible watching lots of new people dancing and singing along to Crap Day. No matter how many times we play that song live, even we are surprised by how much people love that song and it hits a chord with them. It is humbling to see that reaction from stage. Out of Power and Just Walk Away were more refined this time with added backing vocals from drummer Greg. And finally, our new set ender on the night Pointless was shortened by removing the audience interaction bit that was replaced by a funky new Lady Ga Ga riff.

We signed up new fans on to our mailing list and gave out loads of copies of our free EP, Backstage Pass. This is one of the gigs that has marked a change in the flavour of our set and in just 3 gigs this year we have launched 4 brand new songs.

Thanks to Mark of Wheel Tappers Music for putting on the night on, The Frayed Laces for playing an awesome slot before us and helping us co-promote this gig, Joe for designing the flyer, everyone who was there (including parents of drummer Greg and guitarist Matt) and everyone who supported us in the background to make this gig possible.
